The Underground Story</i>

In the large and oddly-inhabited Vivo City was the Magi-Tech academy, a grand private school dedicated to the arcane art of magic. A large school, it resembled a castle from the Middle Ages. However, it was vastly more modern, with an automated steel drawbridge with a security booth, glass windows, grounds with basketball courts and a baseball diamond, and many other common day school attributes. The insides were not much different; it still retained the feel of a stone castle, but was filled with everyday equipment and items.

Hundreds of warlocks, witches, wizards, sorcerers and the like attended Magi-Tech; all living in the academy’s dormitories and honing their mysterious capabilities. One such student, however, was not quite like the others –

“Did I mention the time I took on this ogre inside the forest of Adams Park?” Darren Trader boasted, as he gave off his best smile. His gleaming white teeth nearly blinded half the students in the cafeteria. A group had formed around the table that Darren was standing on, George Washington-style, all staring either excitedly or blankly. “There I was, taking my usual hundred mile jog, when I heard this far-off cry. ‘Help! Help!’ it said. Being the brave, heroic, and devilishly handsome wizard I am, I rushed off in the direction of the plea. After running a good five minutes, I finally came across the most horrifying sight: A young girl no older than eight, dangling over a large pot of boiling water by a rope bound around her feet, and the massively huge and ugly ogre standing by for his lunch. I knew what I had to do. I whipped out my wand and went to town on that beast….”

As Darren continued his fantastic story, the student Mary Clash took a large bite out of her peanut butter and ham sandwich. She belched loudly and glanced over in Darren’s direction. She sighed. “There he goes again. I wonder when he’s going to mention we were the ones who saved that kid.”

“He’s going to!” the student sitting next to Mary, Kim Lector, assured her. “Darren’s our friend. He wouldn’t leave something as important as his friends out of his story.”

Mary gently patted the top of Kim’s bubblegum-pink haired head. “You poor, naïve girl…” she said, clicking her tongue disapprovingly. Kim pouted. After the group of students disbanded after hearing his story, Darren headed toward the two witches and sat down contently. “Had fun?” Mary asked monotonously.

“It’s a hard job being as amazing I am,” Darren said, as he brushed his brown hair back.

“Oh, shut up,” Mary grumbled.

“No need to be so envious, my dear Mary,” he said suavely, putting his arm around her shoulders. “It may be difficult for you to keep your knees from buckling from my mere presence, but do not worry. I will not look down upon you for it.”

“More like it’s difficult for me to keep down my lunch from your mere presence,” she deadpanned, removing his arm.

Darren and Mary glared daggers at each other. Finally ending the tense silence, Kim said awkwardly, “Well, I thought it was a nice story.”

Breaking the powerful eye-staring contest, Darren gave a large grin to Kim. “Why thank you, Kimberly. I could always count on you to brighten my day.”

“Aww, you’re too sweet…” Kim blushed.

“I think I really am going to lose my lunch,” Mary groaned, mimicking gagging sounds.

Suddenly, the student Nick Jones ran up to the trio’s table, and accidentally slipped on a random banana peel on the cafeteria floor, falling flat on his back. Barely noticing, Darren took a sip from his soda can. “What’s the news, messenger boy?”

Groaning in pain, Nick picked himself up off the floor by the table’s edge. “I am not your messenger boy…” he mumbled, his eyes hidden under the bangs of his blonde hair.

“Hate to agree with the brunette doofus, but he’s sort of right,” Mary said. “That’s what we are paying you for.”

“I wish to be addressed as my name or, if not that, your informant!” Nick protested.

“Okay, you’re our informant.” Kim smiled cutely.

Nick’s face turned redder than a tomato. “Erm…yeah. Well, I heard that there has been some seriously strange stuff happening down in the school’s dungeons.”

“Strange stuff always happens down there,” Mary said dismissively. “It is where the staff keeps their personal magical items and where the punishments are usually dealt.”

“It’s different this time,” Nick said, growing nervous. “There’s been talk among the teachers that some of their stuff has been disappearing and one student down there who was polishing the chains swore that she heard something burrowing beneath the ground.”

Darren gulped, sweat pouring down his brow. “Erm, sounds like something the custodians should deal with.”

“What’s the matter, Mr. All-Mighty? Scared?” Mary asked, smirking.

Darren shook his head, and scowled. “Absolutely not! I, Darren Trader, will take up this task at hand!”

“Looks like we have a new adventure,” Kim said happily.

Mary sighed. “Great.” She turned to Nick. “What’s the pay?”

“I was able to convince Professor Arack to give us forty dollars if you’re able to figure out what’s going on. Apparently, whatever’s taking the teachers’ items has also swiped his prized stirring ladle.”

Mary narrowed her eyes. “His ladle? Forty bucks for a flippin’ ladle?”

“Apparently it’s a part of a set,” Nick said with a shrug.

“Whatever. So that’ll be ten divided among us. All right, not much longer ‘til I can get that potion set.” Mary smiled thoughtfully.

---</i>

Darren, Mary and Kim stood in front of the wooden door to the lower levels of Magi-Tech. Listening closely, they could hear the groans of pipes, the rattling of chains, and the faint help me coming from behind it. “Right. I have deemed this task impossible, even with help from me. Let us return back to the lunchroom. I hear they’re serving fried chicken wings!”

As he attempted to dash away, Mary caught him back the back of his green, star-covered robe. “Not so fast,” she said. “We have a job to do, and I want that damn potion set I’ve been saving up for. We’re going.”

“Don’t worry, Darren,” Kim said cheerfully. “We’ll be here with you, and I even have this.” Pulling from her purple, flower-decorated robe’s large sleeves, Kim took out a tiny, red scented candle.

“What’s that, Kim?” Mary asked, and then dragged Darren to the floor.

“It’s a century candle,” Kim explained, “guaranteed to last one hundred years or my money back.”

“See, Trader? We even have a candle when we could’ve used a flashlight,” Mary said. “So let’s go.”

Darren closed his eyes tightly, gripping the back of Mary’s red, pumpkin-covered robe as the three entered the dungeons. “Something tells me that our adventure won’t continue for several days, if not several weeks,” Kim muttered.

“You’re just imagining things,” Mary said, waving her hand nonchalantly.
Yeah, I had to write SOMETHING. I thought I might as well continue my Laugh Trax series by starting the Magi-Tech stories! And Kim isn’t kidding. I probably won’t update again for…months. :O_o:

Well…enjoy this for now.

...aw what the hell, it's a good story. Then again, you haven't prodused a low grade story since...well ever. Unless you compare your early work to the most recent. This story does remind me of another work of magical school type, with knee high stockings and SHORT MINI-SKIRTS!!!! It's a habit.
